Apple has decided to support Progressive WebApps on iOS even after update to iOS 17.4. Therefore, the billyard app works on Apple devices with all functions, including push notifications, as before.
The following article is therefore irrelevant and remains solely for the purposes of understanding Apple's previous statement.
The European Union has imposed various requirements on Apple in the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This DMA comes into force on March 6, 2024, so there will be an update for Apple devices by then at the latest (iOS version 17.4). This update will result in a change to the billyard app on Apple devices, as Progressive WebApps will no longer be supported.
The good news in advance: You can update to iOS 17.4 and still use the billyard app as usual and upload receipts.
What happens after the update to 17.4 with the billyard app?
As soon as you click on the billyard icon for the first time after the update, you will see the following message:
Click on the "Open" button.
After that, there are 2 options.
Option 1. 1.: The billyard app opens as usual. For you, the only difference is that you can now see "webapp.billyard.de" at the bottom of the screen. Everything else remains the same.
Option 2. 2. 2.: a window will open, aksing you if you want to continue using your standard browser. To do just that, click on the "continue" button.
The following page is displayed, asking you to choose a new standard browser. Click on"Later".
After that, the billyard WebApp will open as usual and you can upload receipts as before. Again, the only difference is that "webapp.billyard.de" is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Note: by eliminating the support of progressive WebApps on iOS, unfortunately, the possibility to have messages sent by push will no longer be available. You can only receive notifications from billyard by email in the future.
